Sharḥ ʿUqud Rasm al-Mufti by Ibn Abidin – A One Day Fiqh Intensive
Through this intensive day course, Dr Salah Abul Haj will teach Ibn ʿAbidin’s widely accepted and acclaimed text: Sharh ʿUqud Rasm al Mufti. This is a critical work in the Hanafi School that summarises the major rules, guidelines, and framework for understanding the methodology of how to arrive at the desired fatwa in the School, general concepts surrounding issuing legal verdicts, and the major works of the School and how to categorise them.
Learning Outcomes
· A general understanding of ifta and rasm works in the Hanafi School
· Learn who Ibn ʿAbidin was and the importance of the ʿUqud Rasm al-Mufti.
· Understand how to discern the sound opinion when there are multiple opinions on an issue,
· Learn the categories of legal works in the Hanafi School and the place of the mutūn in the School.
· A detailed discussion on the primary works (dhahir al-riwaya) of the school and their utility
· How to deal with narrations found in other than the primary narrations
· How to categorise differing opinions and when weaker opinions can be employed
· Define custom, need and hardship and when they can potentially change the legal verdict.
Note: This course is for advanced or upper intermediate students of Hanafi Fiqh who can understand Arabic as there will be no translation. Students at this proficiency level will derive the maximum benefit from the course discussions.
**There is no guarantee that the whole book will be finished during the course. The Shaykh will endeavour to read as much as possible, but more emphasis will be given to developing a thorough understanding of the work and having detailed discussions**
